Ummm . ... you may win the fight but not the prize? Winning does not make a winner? Ok that's my guess on the moral of the story.

I'm not sure I'm clear on it, but I know there's one there somewhere. Selfishness robs everyone of the prize? Teamwork? Greed? Or just our base nature out there doing what creatures do best...try to survive and once in awhile score a prize.
