odd time signatures: Guest Post: Dear Middle School…

You totally need to send this to the Principal and the SUperintendent. SHe is right on target there. I spent many years as a school secretary and this is unacceptable. Hopefully this experience will not spoil her for how much fun High School can be. Put this behind you, open your heart and your mind and let the good times roll! Good Luck!

I've got an 8th-grader graduating this week too (interestingly enough, her middle school has the same initials - if this one is also in eastern Ventura County, CA, that would be either a bizarre coincidence or Dancergirl and my stepdaughter are classmates). She's also one of the hardworking kids who doesn't get noticed, and I'm thinking about having her read this post; I'd like to know how much of it resonates with her. I'd suspect that it's a fair amount.

I'm guessing your stepdaughter and mine are classmates. I'd love to hear what your daughter has to say about it, because I'm betting they really do have much in common. Here's a post I wrote at the first of the year that names the school. http://www.drumsnwhistles.com/2007/08/26/hello-...

    Cannot wait until Thursday. :)

Different school, but same initials and county; stepdaughter is at Mesa Verde Middle School in Moorpark. (Her dad works in Camarillo, though.)

I suspect this issues aren't much different, though. The kids who do well and aren't rocking the boat in one way or another - suck-ups and troublemakers, as your daughter put it so well - never seem to get the attention they deserve.

This kind of school experience is what makes me wish I had the courage to homeschool my kids.

    Good on ya, Irishdancr

Thanks! She's finally done with that place, and not a moment too soon. None
of my kids came out of there with a good experience, but they managed to do
    well in HS, thankfully.
