Mocha Mamma's parents who ask her to find the kid for toothbrushing: HP. The parents who want the schedule changed so their child is in with the "nice girls": HP.

Getting stern with the clueless school? NOT HELICOPTER PARENTING. That is the official word from me, the authority.

Re: Hello, This is the Parent of Your Former Honor Student Calling…

LOL, Kelly!...unless you teleported into this little California bedroom community district, you're safe from criticism. Reassure Kennimus it wasn't directed at you.

It's just that for all the crazed parents with stupid requests, there are some like us who seem to constantly find ourselves in the position of having to fight for our kids to be able to learn at a level that challenges them.

And even if they did reconfigure their criteria, how can kids who meet the new baseline on a current basis be excluded?

I hope she's okay, too. Of all my kids, she's the one with the strongest desire to learn and excel, and I'd hate to see her discouraged from doing that.

Re: Hello, This is the Parent of Your Former Honor Student Calling…

It's funny, but Kennimus thought you were slamming me, but I assured him that I had NOTHING to do with your daughter's placement. It's completely irresponsible for them to have merged these two schools and then not managed to have the foresight to determine what to do with their Honors students (not to mention Special Education students, but I though that would have been too obvious).

Or perhaps they did.

Here's my question for the district: did they figure that their honors student category was going to increase and then re-configure their placement criteria? If so, did your daughter not make the cut? If so, did they consider her and other kids not to have been "Honors" in the first place?

I'm sorry for the mess. I hope it all works out and you get the answers you seek. Mostly, I hope that your daughter is ok.

Re: Hello, This is the Parent of Your Former Honor Student Calling…

oh my goodness, that's harsh. the school's actions about your daughter, not your letter. I seriously hope she can get back in -- there's no reason they should have bumped a smart girl like her. she will be successful no matter what, but it sure does help to have a boost like GATE.
