I have been so appalled by the teasers for this I haven't really given it much thought. Missing a month of school -- not so much an issue for me. Sending my kid off with minimal adult contact? Giant issue. This is abusive to all the kids and the parents ought to be ashamed. Of course, they aren't.

I can't help but feel that the spiraling reality show descent into pure tasteless voyeurism is evidence of our society's Roman-style decline. We've gone so beyond what Paddy Chayefsky satirized in "Network." I don't know what saddens me more -- the networks that OK these voyeuristic spectacles or the stupid parents who collude with them to get their kids on TV.
