Motorola Razr: Dry Clean Only

Started by Karoli · 7 months ago

In an almost absurd comedy of errors yesterday, my lovely daughter washed her new, uninsured Motorola Razr.  It went all the way through the cycle before we realized what happened.
I’m afraid she killed it.  I used a blow dryer on it last night for about an ho ... Continue reading »

  • yikes, you've done everything I would have tried...have you crossed your fingers?
  • I have done the same thing :( once it lived once it died. I took the battery and the media card (flash type card not sure what ya call it) out and left it open and let it dry out for a day and it came back to life. The other one I think the bang bang around got it long before the water did.

Hope it lives if not - oh I soo hate having to replace phones!
  • Definitely don't let her try to turn it on again until you're SURE it's dry. She may not have fried it just yet, but continuing to try to turn it on will definitely do so. My brother's phone survived a trip through the washer with minimal (read: waterlogged display, but still functioning) damage. My dad's phone took a trip to the toilet, his didn't survive because he kept trying to turn it on-- that sizzling sound? Not a good thing!!
    Hope it all works out!
  • I did this just last month with my old Nokia. I took it all apart and let it air dry for 72 hours. Works fine.

Turning it on may have indeed killed it, though. BTW, always insure all kid's phones.
  • Thanks to you all for the suggestions. Alas, it is firmly dead. I left it in the sun again today and blew-dried it one more time, put the battery and SIM card in (both work because I tried them in my phone), and...

    nothing. Zero, zip nada.

Trying to decide a replacement strategy. She keeps telling me I did buy insurance on it...but I sure don't remember it that way. I guess I'll go and find out from the horse's mouth tomorrow. If I did and they replace it, she'll get my Pink one...I'll take the new one, if for no other reason than to remind her to be more responsible in the future.
