ROFL. I'd have told her how stupid it was, definitely. She obviously already knew it but I do believe that children ought to have that sort of thing reinforced when it takes 12 hours to clean up a mess that they've made. ;-)

I am reading your tale as my 5 year old sits in the tub marinating in detangler and conditioner in the same predicament as your daughter. Having endured a headful of burrs last year - which the hairdresser down the street mercifully managed to comb out, this is not my first encounter with "hair emergencies", however, I do not have your staying power. I am trying to sell her on a perky short hairdo for the start of school. Reading of your experience is giving me a much needed opportunity to calm down, take a deep breath and go back to try it again without getting mad at her (I confess I was starting to get very frustrated as she freaks out if ANY water touches her face, never mind gets in her eyes).
